The supernatural forces of County Clare, Ireland, doom the love of Bartley, a wealthy young man, and Nora, a poor country girl. They take the 'troth of death,' a dangerous oath invoking the banshee, and when Bartley proves unworthy, they perish, while his spirit is cursed to wander until judgment day.
