A newspaper writer in the frontier town of Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory discovers the complex tale of Madame Verdi, a mysterious and lovely woman whose Confederate officer husband has died. Competing gambling house bosses work together to force her to leave town by spreading nasty stories about her history and stirring up hatred toward her.
