Storming of the Bastille
On July 14, 1789, French people stormed the Bastille prison in Paris. This event marked the start of the French Revolution. Angry crowds of men and women attacked the fortress because they wanted freedom from the king's rule. The people won that day and took control of the prison. This victory became a major turning point in French history and is still celebrated in France today as Bastille Day.
