Trial of Marie Antoinette

On October 16, 1793, Marie Antoinette, the Queen of France, was put to death by the guillotine during the French Revolution. She had been found guilty of treason against the French state. Her death came about a year after her husband, King Louis XVI, was also killed in the same way. Marie Antoinette's execution marked a major moment in the Revolution, as it showed how far the new French government would go to break from the old royal system.
