A Phantom Yesterday

German entertainer Lilo Richter and American spy writer Gil Blake get caught up in each other's complicated lives during a time of political trouble in a split city. When they search for the missing politician known as Herr Walnut, they face deadly threats but finally uncover a Nazi scheme to demand ransom money.

The tangled lives of Lilo Richter, a beloved German entertainer, and Gil Blake, an American writer entangled in espionage, are set against a background of political unrest and a divided city. Their hunt for Herr Walnut, a missing political figure, puts them in grave danger but eventually leads to the exposure of a Nazi plot for ransom.

Lilo Dichter, against the advice of her agent, accepts a nightclub engagement in Berlin at a time when the neo–Nazis were still trying through terrorism to make a comeback. She also wants to be with the only man she has ever loved: American reporter Gil Blake. But Blake, working on an explosive story, has been kidnapped. Only with the help of her former underground friends is she able to rescue him.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
