A Scaffold for Two

Lawyer Charles Farnsworth, his plane grounded, is swamped with hospitality by Franklyn Bennett and his seemingly emotionally unbalanced children. One child, Mayetta, tells Farnsworth there’s going to be a hanging—of her cousin Conrad—and invites the lawyer to watch it. Conrad, it seems, has been acquitted of murder by a mainland jury, and now a group known as the Redressors of the Injustice plans to give him another “trial” and then hang him.

Lawyer Farnsworth crash-lands his plane on a dark island during a storm. He meets Franklin Bennett, who owns the island, and Bennett's upset daughter Mayetta. While staying with Bennett, Farnsworth finds out about a hidden court case that could destroy the calm on the island.

A stormy island cloaked in tension shelters Farnsworth, an attorney forced to land his plane. He meets Franklin Bennett, the island's owner, and Mayetta, Bennett's troubled daughter. As Farnsworth navigates Bennett's chilling hospitality, he discovers a secret trial that threatens to unravel the island's fragile peace.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
