Beyond Belief

A young woman named Helen can't remember who she is and walks around New York City. A kind police officer and a man from Oklahoma try to help her figure out her past. Their hunt for answers takes them down South, where Helen starts to remember pieces of her life and gets ready to face her controlling mother.

Neither the policeman nor Anna Vesela and her notion shop partner, Dan, can, despite much questioning, find out anything about a young woman who can’t even remember her name. Anna and Dan, both of whom lost their families in catastrophes they are trying to forget, provide room and food for the amnesiac and take her for treatment to the local hospital clinic, which does nothing but ask her to return in three weeks. Only when Dan discovers eight newly made keys in the young woman’s pocketbook does the mystery begin to unravel.

Helen, a young woman who has lost her identity, wanders through the streets of New York with a compassionate police officer and a man from Oklahoma who is trying to help her regain her memory. The search for her past leads them to the South, where she recalls bits of her life and now can face her controlling mother.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
