Concerto in Death

On Christmas Eve, a famous conductor, Anton Stern, returns from a tour to find himself obsessed with a girl violinist who brings back memories of his dead son, Jonathan, a gifted musician. But as his fixation grows, his daughter Rebecca, who feels overshadowed by her brother's memory, plans to destroy Jonathan's violin to force Anton to face reality.

A well-known orchestra leader named Anton Stern comes home on Christmas Eve after traveling for work. He becomes fascinated with a young woman who plays violin because she reminds him of his dead son Jonathan, who was also a talented musician. Meanwhile, his daughter Rebecca feels like her father cares more about Jonathan's memory than about her. She decides to break Jonathan's violin so Anton will stop living in the past and pay attention to the present.

Conductor Anton Stern vacillates between reality—in which he accepts his son Jonathan's death—and fantasy, convinced he hears his son practicing the violin. Stern believes his son is communicating through the Stradivarius violin. Finally, only his daughter is willing to make a desperate effort to bring her father back to reality.
