Death Will Not Silence Me

Having now lost her son, Eddie, and her husband, Abraham Lincoln, to death, Mary Todd Lincoln reflects on her troubled life as First Lady amid the Civil War. Gripped by a fear of impending disaster, she is finally committed to an asylum after her son Robert's determination to save her drives her to the edge of insanity.

Delicate and beautiful, Kentucky aristocrat Mary Todd thinks she caused her mother’s death but, nevertheless, a rangy young lawyer named Abraham Lincoln falls in love with her. One by one, she sees her husband and each son except the oldest, Robert, die. Robert’s decision to commit the grieving woman is condemned by the public, and Mary claims Robert will inherit the curse.

After losing both her son Eddie and her husband Abraham Lincoln to death, Mary Todd Lincoln looks back on her difficult time as First Lady during the Civil War. Haunted by constant worry that something terrible will happen, she ends up in a mental hospital when her son Robert's efforts to help her instead push her toward madness.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
