General Laughter

A young actress, troubled by career disappointments and her role as wife and mother, contemplates suicide. In a moment of relief, she discovers her mistake and laughs at her predicament. The arrival of the doorman and a phone call from her husband bring her back to reality, but she finds a new warmth in their relationship.

Instead of writing a suicide note to her husband and children, a distraught actress decides to tape record her reasons for wanting to kill herself as well as her last gasps. But, being an actress, she would like “to exit, amid general laughter.” However, she soon discovers it to be rather difficult, even for an actress, to leave the world in such a manner.

A struggling young actress feels overwhelmed by her failing career and the pressures of being a wife and mother, leading her to consider ending her life. When she realizes she's made an error, she feels suddenly lighter and even finds humor in her situation. The doorman shows up and her husband calls, pulling her back to the real world, where she discovers a fresh closeness with her husband.
