Guardian Angel

David, a young man haunted by tragedy, and Jane, a lively girl who believes in magic, live peacefully in a small town where they spend quiet time together. But Jane's mother thinks her daughter's wild stories mean she's crazy and forces her into a mental hospital. David, who loves Jane's magical world, gets a job at the hospital so he can stay near her.

In a quiet town, David, a young man burdened by a tragic past, and Jane, a spirited girl with mystical beliefs, find contentment in a routine of silent reflection. But Jane's mother insists on her commitment to a sanitarium, fearing her imaginative tales mark insanity. David, drawn to Jane’s world of wonder, takes a job there to be closer to her.

David, who has taken over his family’s truck body plant, is smitten by a teenager named Jane whom he sees sitting under a tree on his father’s vast estate. Jane—brilliant, mystical and comfortable with inmates of the local asylum—is unlike any female David has known. She wanders a lot, sees things that others don’t, but declares she is always protected by her guardian angel, someone, she says, David must find if he is ever to know the real meaning of life.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
