A man with gambling problems starts winning big at a Las Vegas casino, catching the attention of the bosses who make him an offer that challenges his honesty. When he finds out he can predict what cards will come next, he knows the excitement of betting is gone for good. He leaves the casino behind to start a store with his wife in a peaceful small town.

Jerry Dykman, a financial wizard, genius with numbers, and shoo-in for the vice-presidency at his brokerage firm, suddenly resigns. He is certain that by applying his mathematical talents he can beat the house at the blackjack table. Obsessed with his dream, he leaves his wife and heads for Las Vegas. His system works—so well, in fact, that house owners start thinking of fitting him for concrete boots and dumping him into a lake before they go broke.

A troubled gambler's winning streak in a Las Vegas casino piques the interest of management, which offers him a deal that tests his integrity. But when he discovers he can foresee card outcomes, he realizes that the thrill of gambling has gone forever. He gives up the casino to open a shop with his wife in a quiet town.
