How Quiet the Night
The haunting, psychological tale of a man torn between two loves and his dark past, and of his ultimate downfall. Despite his conflict, he is able to win the affection of a new love, but guilt and fear of exposure lead him to murder and insanity. The town sheriff pursues him relentlessly until he is forced to break down completely.
Ambitious Russell Porter, intent on marrying wealthy Sibyl Malone, jilts his hometown girlfriend, Corajean Buxton, who is pregnant with his child. Enraged by his decision, Corajean warns Porter that she will never let him go so he, out of desperation, kills her. Even after Sheriff Mayberry accuses him of murder, Porter feels no remorse for what he did until he begins to wonder if he should have taken heed of her warning, literally.
A man struggles between two women he loves while hiding secrets from his past, leading to his destruction. Even though he's conflicted, he wins over a new woman's heart, but shame and fear of getting caught drive him to kill and lose his mind. The local sheriff hunts him down without stopping until the man completely falls apart.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
