I Am the Killer
A doctor named Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis battles to protect mothers and newborns by pushing for clean medical practices during childbirth, but other doctors refuse to listen to him at first, until his ideas finally win out and transform how hospitals work.
The fight to save mothers and babies in an obstetrical ward is dramatized in the story of Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis, whose advocacy of antiseptic hygiene in childbirth was at first rejected by the medical profession, but whose victory eventually changed hospital practice.
It is the mid–1800s. Dr. Ignatz Semmelweis is a young, brash and dedicated obstetrician in one of Vienna’s largest hospitals. The patients of the doctors on Ward I are dying at an alarming rate, yet the midwives of Ward II boast of nearly no deaths at all. Obviously, there is a killer loose in Ward I. But who or what is killing these young women?
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
