Oliver’s former girlfriend, Louise, asks church pastor Dr. Mabley to look into why Oliver has refused all her dinner invitations in the two years since she’s been married. Mabley agrees, and finds out that Oliver has been entertaining his parents all the while. Louise is incredulous; she attended their funeral three years ago!

In a small town, whispers of curiosity and concern surround Oliver Prouty, a man with a somber past who lives alone and often talks to himself. When he claims his long-deceased parents are visiting for dinner, neighbor Louise tries to find the truth about Oliver's peculiar behavior.
