Max tries to keep dark secrets from his wife Helen in their shadowy living room where old memories seem to linger. When a Ouija board spells out "murder," fear takes over and Max finally tells Helen he killed Tom Garth. Unable to bear the weight of his guilt any longer, he reveals what he did, and the mysterious board becomes both his way to freedom and his worst nightmare.

In a dimly lit parlor filled with whispers of the past, Max struggles to hide secrets and guilt from his wife, Helen, while the Ouija board spells "murder." Paranoia grips him as he confesses to Helen that he killed Tom Garth. But at last he breaks, showing his crime, and the board becomes a symbol of salvation and dread.

Max Picket’s business is in shambles. His partner walked off with nearly $100,000 of the company’s funds and then, according to Max, committed suicide. While visiting their friends the Abbots one evening, Max and his wife, for fun, agree to work the ouija board Gwen Abbot recently bought at a garage sale. When the board spells out M-U-R-D-E-R, no one takes it seriously until later, when it predicts that Max will M-U-R-D-E-R three more people.
