Mayerling Revisited

A young, engaged couple must confront the guy's domineering and wealthy father. As they deal with his father's opposition to their marriage, the woman has dreams of a similar couple over 100 years ago who confronted the same problem in the same house.

Kitty Scott has long felt a kinship for Marie Vetsera who, betrothed to Archduke Rudolph, heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, died with the Archduke in the village of Mayerling before they could go through with their wedding plans. The cause of their deaths is still a matter of speculation, but Kitty is sure that she, a penniless schoolteacher, and her betrothed, David Carlton, son of a tyrannical Texas oil millionaire, are destined to repeat the courtship of the Archduke and Marie and will ultimately meet the same fate.

A man and woman planning to marry must face his rich, controlling father who doesn't want them together. While fighting his dad's attempts to stop their wedding, the woman starts having dreams about another couple from long ago who dealt with the same father in the same house over a century earlier.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
