An old man fixates on the number 2172 after it keeps showing up everywhere in his daily life. His nephew's girlfriend warns that the number has special meaning in numerology, but the nephew ignores his uncle's beliefs about it.

Ne’er-do-well Mark Evans introduces his rich Uncle Edgar, a widower, to his current girlfriend, but Mimi Magowan, and soon wishes he hadn’t. Edgar not only takes up with Mimi, starts believing in her faith in numerology. The numbers 12172 take on a significant meaning in life, popping up in all kinds of situations, to a point where he becomes convinced he had been the cause of his wife’s death.
