The only two survivors of the sunken H.M.S. Arabella, Lady Valerie Castleton—accustomed to living a life of luxury—and Lt. With the help of the island’s lone inhabitant, a former French sailor, they manage to learn to live quite comfortably. They also fall in love and conduct their own wedding ceremony, swearing that under no circumstances would they return to civilization. But after a year, a British frigate sails into the island’s harbor. It is captained by the legal husband of the now-pregnant Lady Castleton.
