Pretty Polly

In order to escape the good-natured meddling of his colleagues, a man spins animaginary romance. When his fake lover is found murdered, he discovers that he placed himself at the scene of the crime with his fictitious claims.

Joe Gaffney, an analyst in Walter Evans’ securities firm, falls in love with a client’s secretary, Polly Simmons, whom he has met only on the phone. Evans encourages his shy employee to date the woman, and Gaffney invents a fantasy romance to satisfy his boss. The only trouble is that the dream girl is found murdered one evening that Gaffney claimed to have been with her.

To avoid his coworkers' friendly interference, a man makes up a fake girlfriend. When his pretend lover turns up dead, he realizes his made-up story puts him right where the murder happened.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
