Star Sapphire

A man brings a teenage girl into his home to be a companion for his wife who uses a wheelchair, then shows the girl how to hunt and kill with a blue gemstone ring that has captured her complete attention.

Dan and Bessie, both 52, live on a farm they inherited, but have never had children. Dan arranges with a foundling home to adopt a teenager, Edna Kelly, to help Bessie, an invalid for the past ten years, and some day to inherit the farm. Edna is fascinated by Dan’s star sapphire ring, and he discovers that when she stares at it, he can hypnotize her. He uses his new power discreetly, and all goes well until he teaches her, while under hypnosis, to become a crack shot with a .22 rifle.

After adopting a teenage girl to keep his wheelchair bound spouse company, a man teaches the girl how to hunt and kill using the sapphire ring she has become obsessed with.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
