The $999,000 Error

A letter arrives from the United States addressed to Chareng Magpali, who lives in the wilds of the Philippines. Narcisso Esmilla, a lawyer and neighbor, translates it. Chareng’s sister has died, and her estate has sent a Manila bank a $1,000 check made out to Chareng. The lawyer volunteers to pick up the money, but when he sees the check is worth $1 million—a computer error—he gives Chareng $1,000 and heads for Brazil with what’s left: $999,000.

A bank president discovers that a glitch in their system erroneously transferred the sum of $999,000 into the account of a corrupt Manila lawyer. In order to retrieve the amount, he must call in a favor to get the greatest attorney in the world to represent his case.

A bank boss finds out that a computer error wrongly sent $999,000 to a crooked lawyer's account in Manila. To get the money back, he has to ask for help from the world's best attorney to fight his case.
