Silas Love takes on the assignment of writing an “as told to” book about once famous actress Joan Edmonds. While interviewing Ms. Edmonds, Love becomes fascinated with her daughter, Angela, who adores her mother and whose bedroom is cluttered with a “jungle” of avocado trees, the largest of which is growing in soil once stepped on by her mother. In a moment of weakness, Ms. Edmonds tells Love that Angela is an adopted daughter, which she never wants Angela to know.
