The Beheading

Description

Joyce tells her life story to another woman, describing the dark troubles in her family and painful events from her past, then calmly reveals she has agreed to let her doctor cut off her head so she can be part of the world's first head transplant experiment.

After seeing a variety of medical practitioners without success, Joyce is still very distressed by her frequent asthma attacks. Then she meets an elderly physician who immediately wins her confidence. In fact, Joyce is so at ease with him that at their first session she agrees to let him perform a head transplant to relieve her discomfort. Now all they have to do is locate a spare head.

A woman called Joyce narrates her life experiences to another woman. She paints a grim picture of her family portrait and other incidents of her past and then goes on to calmly explain that she has signed a deal to be decapitated by her physician and become the subject of the world's first head transplant experiment.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
