The Birthmark

Aylmer, one of the great scientists of the late 1700s, marries beautiful Georgianna. But soon he cannot stand to look at her because of a strange birthmark which glows whenever she turns pale. Though Alymer's lab assistant, Aminadab, would accept Georgianna just as she is, Aylmer is haunted by the desire to erase the blemish, no matter what the consequence. Georgianna consents, knowing that perhaps whatever he does will mean her death.

A scientist believes that a hand-shaped birthmark on his wife's cheek is the only thing standing between her and perfect beauty. He develops a means of removing it and his wife is willing. What price will they pay for their vanity?

A researcher thinks his wife would be perfectly beautiful if not for a hand-shaped mark on her face that she was born with. He creates a way to get rid of it and she agrees to try it. What will happen to them because they care too much about looks?

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
