The Burning Whirlwind

An elderly woman who trusts easily takes eight million dollars out of the bank and hides it in her house. But the person who helped her move the money wants it for himself and pays a crook to trick her and steal it.

When Mrs. Hartley Loring, wealthy widow of the ex-governor, withdraws her $8 million fortune, no one at the bank knows where she is storing it or what she plans to do with it. Then Sid Wicks, the security guard and a former flim flam artist, bumps into his old girlfriend, who happens to be Mrs. Loring’s fortune-teller. Soon he has a plan to swindle the distraught widow, who expects the money to go to heaven on a chariot of fire in a whirlwind like Elijah.

A trusting aged woman withdraws eight million dollars and keeps it stashed at her home. Unfortunately the person who helped her transfer the amount has other ideas and hires a criminal to dupe her out of it.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
