The Cat Is Dead

An American soldier and a French Resistance fighter meet during wartime and fall in love. Years later, as a married couple, they travel back to France for a friend's funeral and remember how their romance began in Paris.

His code name in the underground was Jean Barrere. After World War II, in the Normandy town of Moncarnet, Barrere chose burglary as a profession. Because of his techniques, he was nicknamed “Le Cat” by the gendarmes. While being chased after one of his heists, Barrere is hidden by another former underground member, Nicole Maynard, now engaged to an American flyer they had saved. Her fiancé doesn’t understand why Nicole would protect a thief—but Nicole does.

Years later, a husband and his wife return to France to attend the funeral of an old friend. In the city of love, they reminisce the past and remember the first time they met when she was a member of the French Resistance and he, an American soldier.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
