The Covered Bridge

A woman who just got married walks across an old wooden bridge and gets sent back in time to the 1770s. When people try to force her into a marriage she doesn't want, she fights back with all the bold ideas about women's rights from the 1970s.

Peg and Ted Marshall, just married and nearing their honeymoon hotel in New Hampshire, drive at dusk over a covered bridge. When they emerge, Peg is horror-stricken to find that their car has been transformed into a horse-drawn carriage and that Ted has become a different person, dressed in colonial attire and wearing a powdered wig. He is also muttering something about how her father is objecting to her marriage to Ted and has chosen him as her intended.

A new bride crosses an old covered bridge and is transported in time to the 1770's. About to be shackled in an arranged marriage, she dishes out all the spit and fire of 1970's women's lib.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
