In the late 1860's, Col. Chambers gives $200,000 to his former officer and current president of a small bank in Texas, Wayne Prescott with the order to invest the funds in cattle. Prescott who is about to marry the sheriff's daughter has no intention of investing the money as he guards a terrible secret. What the others don't know is that he is a member of a marauding and murderous posse, the Gunnysack Gang.

Wayne Prescott, president of a small bank in Crystal City, Texas, in the late 1860s, is given $200,000 by Col. Chambers, his former commanding officer, who asks Prescott to invest the money in cattle. Prescott is about to marry Sheriff Benson’s daughter Abby, but neither she, her father, nor the colonel have the slightest inkling that Prescott is a member of the pre–Civil War Gunnysack Gang, who killed people they robbed. Prescott has no intention of investing the money.

In the late 1860s, Colonel Chambers hands over $200,000 to Wayne Prescott, who used to serve under him and now runs a small Texas bank. The Colonel wants Prescott to put the money into cattle. But Prescott, who plans to marry the sheriff's daughter, won't invest the funds because he's hiding something awful. Nobody knows that he rides with the deadly Gunnysack Gang, a group of killers who hunt and rob people.
