The Enchanted Child

A young boy has the strange gift of killing people at will with the force of his thoughts. When anyone speaks positively about dying when he is about, the person under discussion invariably ends up dead. His parents get curious after the second death and get afraid that they might be next in line.

A little boy possesses an unusual power to make people die just by thinking about it. Whenever someone talks about death in a good way while he's around, that person always ends up dying. After two people die, his mom and dad start to wonder what's happening and worry they could be the next ones to die.

Every time young Mark Bristol hears disparaging remarks about someone, he excuses himself and goes to his room. Within minutes the person who was being discussed dies. First, it’s his grandfather, then his grandmother and then his father’s boss. Concerned over these strange happenings, Mark’s father, Ed, visits the family’s minister to ask for advice. After the meeting, Ed, not feeling well, staggers into the path of an oncoming truck. Ten-year-old Mark, thinks he is God, but seems to have more of the devil in him than he knows.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
