A swindler tries to convince an art appraiser to declare his counterfeit painting to be real and worth millions.

Martin Hollinbeck, who has just bribed his way out of prison, relieves a Mideast art counterfeiter of his latest work, a “perfect” Rembrandt. All Hollinbeck needs to rake in millions for the painting is to get art critic Bennet Markowitz’s word that it is authentic. Instead, Markowitz declares it a fake, a statement that Hollinbeck and fellow hood Curly Peterson determine to force Markowitz to change, even if it requires a touch of murder.
