The Light That Failed
Artist Dick Heldar makes a name for himself covering a war in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan. During a battle, he is struck on the head by the broad side of a sword. The blow doesn't bother him until some years later when, painting a portrait of a woman who looks like his childhood sweetheart, his eyesight begins to fail. Doctors say he has little time to finish what his friends consider to be his finest work.
In order to win the hand of the woman he loves, a painter and war correspondent does everything in his power to amass a fortune. When he scorns a woman he considers beneath his station, his carefully laid plans fall apart.
A painter and war reporter tries to get rich so he can marry the woman he loves. But when he treats a lower-class woman badly, his plans fall to pieces.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
