The Mysterious Stranger

In a superstitious Austrian village in the early 1590s, a young lawyer's efforts to help a disgraced priest and his niece only intensify distrust, culminating in their ruin and a grim lesson about human justice and morality.

In a small Austrian town during the 1590s where people believe in bad luck and curses, a young lawyer tries to help a shamed priest and his niece, but his efforts only make the townspeople more suspicious, leading to the destruction of all three and teaching a dark lesson about how people judge right from wrong.

In 1590 Austria, unemployed lawyer Theodore Fischer meets a stranger who can perform miracles. At Fischer's request, the stranger fills his starving Uncle Peter's purse with 1,107 gold coins, warning it will set an entire chain of events in motion—none good in the long run. Fischer realizes the stranger speaks truth but keeps asking for miracles.
