The whims of a wealthy woman leads to the demise of her favourite maid and she is wracked with guilt.

When Marybelle, the Russells’ domestic, is killed in a freak taxicab accident while going to work, Mrs. Russell blames herself. As a birthday present to Marybelle, her employer arranged to pay her cabfare rather than give her the day off she requested. However, when Mr. Russell suggests that Marybelle’s death was part of a master plan, his wife becomes determined to find out why the girl and the cabdriver had to die.
