The Pleading Voice

Claire Bancroft, alone with the caretakers of her family’s mansion in the sparsely settled Maine woods, becomes bedridden with a fever her doctor cannot diagnose. She insists her illness is caused by the fear that overtakes her when she hears a child’s voice coming from the door-frame of a ruined gatehouse. Her sanity is questioned until one of the caretakers hears the same sound and vows never to walk past the gatehouse again after the sun goes down.

A sick teenage girl gets better and hears a voice with no body asking to come inside an old broken building on their land. Her dad and their preacher go check out the ruins to find out where the voice comes from.

A teenage girl recovering from an illness hears a disembodied voice beg to be let into a ruined building on the property. Her father and their minister explore the ruins to learn the source of the voice.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
