The Rocket’s Red Glare

A researcher on a classified military program kills himself at work in front of his colleagues. A small-town police officer thinks someone murdered him and gets pulled into a dangerous spy case.

Sergeant Fritz Mangle is ordered to investigate the apparent suicide of nuclear scientist Jeff Simpson, working on Lomas Industries’ new Pentagon project, the deadly Scorpio missile. Soon after he concludes that Simpson may not have killed himself, Mangle is told to stop his investigation; the case has been closed. But Mangle disobeys and sends his wife to apply for a job at the Lomas plant. What she learns supports her husband’s belief of what really happened.

A scientist working on a top secret weapons project commits suicide in front of coworkers. A local cop suspects it was foul play and runs headlong into a case of espionage.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
