The Triple Crown
A broke horse worker believes he's found the next champion racehorse like "Seabiscuit," so he buys the animal and plans to race him for big money. During his search for people to fund his dream, he encounters many different kinds of people.
Paddy Devlin, who has somehow acquired a very fast colt he calls Malachi, meets a small, young farmhand, Stevie Oakes, who, Paddy believes, can be trained to ride Malachi to the Triple Crown. Stevie’s stepfather, Morton, agrees to allow the penniless Paddy to live in his barn with Malachi and teach Stevie how to ride after the boy has finished his chores. But when boy and horse are ready to race, Morton serves Paddy with legal papers stating that he now owns Malachi as payment for all the board and feed he has provided.
Convinced that he has discovered the next "Seabiscuit," a poor stable hand purchases a horse with the intention of entering him in the high stakes races. He meets all sorts of characters along his journey to find investors in his venture.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
