The Tunnel Man

A crazy inventor builds a device that slices through solid stone like a boat moving through water. When earthquakes threaten the town, he can control the ground itself, and the mayor must choose what to do.

A deranged scientist invents a machine that can cut through elemental rock as easily as a ship cruising through the ocean. With the forecast of an approaching seismic disturbances in the town, he has the power to make it dance to his tunes and the mayor must decide on their course.

A West Coast town is threatened by a massive earthquake when a planetary alignment is expected to unleash such combined gravitational pulls that all fault lines will be activated. While the mayor considers evacuating the city, another threat arises. Mr. Mole, a former scientist who, in a wheelchair contraption, robs banks and then escapes from jail, always by mysteriously tunneling underground. Mole, head of a subterranean nation, plans to make sure the earthquake wipes out the entire West Coast.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
