Tobin’s Palm

On a New York ferry, an Irish immigrant bemoaning the loss of his forgetful fiancée is drawn into a series of misfortunes predicted by a palmist. As his troubles mount, he wonders if they are merely coincidence or if fate is guiding him to a reunion with his girl.

An Irish man on a ferry in New York is sad because he lost his forgetful girlfriend. A palm reader tells him bad things will happen to him. When these bad things start coming true, he wonders if it's just luck or if destiny is trying to bring him back to his girl.

Daniel Tobin, saddened because he can't locate his forgetful bride, Katie Mahorner, just arrived from Ireland, visits, at the suggestion of his friend Malone, one Madame Zozo. She reads his palm and tells an unbelieving Tobin that an ocean voyage, a fire, a fat man, a blond woman, a man with a silver ornament, white horses, steel, steam, stone, a red-haired woman, a bald-headed man and a fellow with a crooked nose would, in sequence, lead him to his beloved Katie.
