Trial by Fire
A smart con man tricks a tribe into believing he's their fire god's chosen savior and gets them to give him their precious jeweled crown. But things go wrong when the real fire god shows up!
A clever deceiver manages to convince a tribal group that he is the appointed messiah from their deity of fire and dupes them into entrusting him with a fabulous jewelled crown. But trouble starts brewing when the fire god himself appears!
After reading how the natives of an Indian island are expecting a white man to come and walk across a bed of burning coals, thus becoming their high priest, con man Brad Stuart talks his scientist friend, Tom Hendricks, into inventing a potion to protect his bare feet from intense heat. Stuart goes to the island, certain that after he fire-walks the natives will not only make him their high priest, but will also present him with their solid gold, richly jeweled, fire-god idol.
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
