An army officer named Amos R. Leland Jr. comes to Paladin for help. Amos has found proof that people in the military are doing dishonest things, and he's worried that someone might try to hurt him because of what he knows.

The television version of the series starring Richard Boone was rated number three or number four in the Nielsen ratings every year of its first four seasons.
