Inspector Maigret

Description

Georges Simenon (1903-1989), Belgian-born French novelist, creator of Paris police detective Inspector Maigret, hero of 84 mysteries. Maigret is a 'thinking detective' who uses perception and psychological insight to solve crimes, more interested in the 'why' than the 'who'. First known radio adaptation was by the BBC in 1957 (an adaptation of 'Maigret and the Lost Life' on the Home Service). The CBC produced 40 30-minute shows (1970-71) and 7 60-minute shows (1975-77), believed part of Theater 10:30. The BBC returned Maigret to Radio 4 on 21 Aug 1976 with three series, plus two Saturday Night Theatre plays and Afternoon Plays.

Jules Maigret, or simply Maigret, is a fictional French police detective created by writer Georges Simenon. He is divisional commissaire of the criminal brigade of the judicial police, based at 36, Quai des Orfèvres, Paris.The character's full name is Jules Amédée François Maigret.
