Holiday Fitzgerald Vaughan

This radio show features music by Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah Vaughan. Host Feather introduces a new idea called 'Phonomontage.' The first song played is 'Mean To Me,' performed by Teddy Wilson and His Orchestra with Billie Holiday singing. During the program, Feather makes two mistakes when introducing songs. First, he says Ella Fitzgerald sings 'Love Me Or Leave Me,' but it's actually Billie Holiday. Second, he claims that Ella's version of 'Perdido' was the first time anyone sang the song on a recording. This is wrong. Jazz expert John McDonough corrects this error. He explains that 'Perdido' was sung before Ella's version. Fed Candrix recorded it in June 1945. Gus Deloof recorded it in January 1946. Buddy Stewart and Charlie Ventura also performed it live from The Hotel Sherman in Chicago in August 1947.
