Lazzarro Spallanzani was an early scientist who studied tiny living things through experiments. He built on the discoveries made by Leeuwenhoek before him. Spallanzani proved two important things: first, that the air around us contains microscopic creatures that we cannot see, and second, that heat from boiling can kill these tiny organisms.
