Raffles

Description

The Raffles stories, created by E. W. Hornung, the brother-in-law of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, concern gentleman burglar A. J. Raffles and his accomplice Bunny Manders. First issued at the turn of the century, they rivaled the popularity of Sherlock Holmes and established the prototype for the Saint, James Bond, and other gentleman/rogue types. In the US, THE ADVENTURES OF RAFFLES was heard in the early 1940's on CBS. The BBC brought Raffles, starring Jeremy Clyde, and his partner Bunny, played by Michael Cochrane, to radio in 1985. Besides this series of six 30-minute shows, the duo did two more series in 1988 and 1992, plus a single 60-minute show for the Play of the Week on BBC Radio 4. All shows were BBC Radio 4 and BBC World Service co-productions.
