Tarzan Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle

The 'Lamont Johnson Version' of Tarzan on radio. Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan first appeared on radio Sept 12, 1932 in a syndicated serial (286 episodes) titled 'Tarzan of the Apes'; a second serial 'Tarzan and the Diamond of Ashir' followed May 14, 1934 (39 episodes); a third, 'Tarzan and the Fires of Thor', was transcribed but never released. This 1951-53 series, 'Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle', a product of Commadore Productions, was first syndicated on the West coast on the Mutual Don-Lee network starting January 11, 1951, then syndicated nationwide on CBS starting March 22, 1952 (67 30-minute episodes, ending June 27, 1953), replacing HOPALONG CASSIDY. Unlike previous series it was not a serial. Tarzan was played by Lamont Johnson; Walter White, Jr. produced; most scripts written by Bud Lesser.
