A Challenge for the Dead

Description

The story of a resolute police detective whose search for justice in a decades-old murder case tests his marriage when his wife decides to attend an art exhibit sponsored by the man he's been hunting. The search for evidence brings him close to the man who can help him—until that man is murdered.

The episode centers on a cold case from two decades prior involving a murdered priest. Police officer Johnny Gordon remains convinced that Mike Perry, now a powerful crime boss, committed the killing during a church robbery. Though Gordon and Perry were once friends and both pursued the same woman—now Gordon's wife Claire—their past creates tension. Claire struggles to comprehend her husband's almost fanatic desire to convict Mike and becomes further bewildered when she unexpectedly encounters Perry again.

A determined cop investigates an old murder case that puts strain on his marriage when his wife goes to an art show funded by the killer he's tracking. Just when he finds someone who can help solve the case, that person gets killed.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
