A Grain of Salt

Description

In a busy east coast city, Sergeant Smith handles everyday police work at his station. The streets buzz with city sounds and music from local performers. Katie O'Neill, a lively young woman with Irish roots, comes into his world when she reports a strange crime. Someone stole her special purse that contains a magic salt shaker, not cash or jewelry.

In a , lively city on the eastern coast, Sergeant Smith spends his days attending to routine matters at the precinct. The atmosphere is filled with a mix of urban noise and the sweet notes of street musicians. Katie O'Neill, a spirited young woman, enters his life, bringing a touch of Ireland's mystical charm. She reports a theft—not of money or jewels, but of her precious pocketbook, which holds a magical salt shaker.

Sgt. Smith, himself half-Irish, doesn’t quite believe Katie O’Neil’s story about her loss of a salt shaker, from which salt always flows freely. He’s much more interested in taking her to a concert by John Philip Sousa’s band. But when he hears how her father, Terrence, acquired the salt shaker in Ireland, thinking it was going to make him rich for life, the sergeant agrees to lend a hand in its recovery.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
