A Matter of Love and Death
Description
The pressures of fame and the strain of an unhappy marriage lead to tragedy in the life of Helen Collins, wife of football star Jim Collins. After Jim is shot by a crazed fan, Helen, feeling guilty over her husband's death, confesses to the police that she killed him. In a tense confrontation, the truth unfurls.
Football star Jim Collins gets shot by a crazy fan, but his wife Helen Collins feels so bad about their troubled marriage that she tells police she's the one who killed him. The stress of being famous and their unhappy relationship had already made Helen's life fall apart. When the real story finally comes out, everyone faces a dramatic showdown.
Now widowed, Helen Collins recalls to police sergeant Callahan that her husband Jim’s life as a celebrity was haunted by fans, who pursued him everywhere. Although Jim seemed to enjoy the attention, it drove Helen crazy to the point where, as she tells the unbelieving sergeant, she thinks she murdered her husband. Was the strange love of his fans the cause of his death?
CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
