A Penny for Your Thoughts

Description

The winds of autumn whisper secrets of a small New England town where a determined reporter is assigned to unveil the mysterious life of an elusive poet. Suddenly, his investigation is complicated by the poet's fear that her husband intends to murder her, and by his own affair with a girl who seems to sap the life of everyone near her.

When Penthesilea Cummings’ book of poetry soars to the top of the charts, the media clamor for more information about the enigmatic author. But “Penny” will see only Pulitzer Prize–winning reporter Jack Wilshire. No sooner does he arrive at her retreat than she tells him her husband plans to kill her, and Bill Cummings cheerfully admits she’s right.

A reporter travels to a small New England town to write about a mysterious poet who stays hidden from the public. His job gets harder when the poet tells him she thinks her husband wants to kill her, and when he starts having an affair with a young woman who seems to drain the energy from everyone around her.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed. In New York City it was not aired by the then all-news WCBS but by its originating station, WOR, which produced and announced it as simply Radio Mystery Theater.
